UP Cabinet clears 17.43-km, 11-station metro link connecting Noida to Greater Noida.
Enquire NowThe Uttar Pradesh government has given the green light to one of NCR's most anticipated transit projects. The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the detailed project report for the proposed extension of the Noida Metro's Aqua Line corridor from Sector 51 to Greater Noida Knowledge Park V. The decision brings a long-pending connectivity upgrade closer to reality for thousands of daily commuters between Noida and Greater Noida.
The scale of the project is significant. The extension project of Aqua Line from Sector-51 to Knowledge Park-V is 17.435 kms long having 11 nos. of Elevated metro stations. The project is estimated to cost INR 2,991.60 crore, and involves the addition of 17.435 km and 11 new stations, offering better urban connectivity and alleviating traffic congestion.
The new corridor will thread through some of the most active residential and commercial pockets on the Noida-Greater Noida border. These stations include the existing Sector 51, Sector 61 (where passengers can interchange with the DMRC Blue Line), Sector 70, Sector 122, Sector 123, Greater Noida Sector 4, Eco Tech-12, Greater Noida Sectors 2, 3, 10, and 12, as well as Knowledge Park-V. This interchange at Sector 61 is particularly important, since this project will connect the commuters to the existing operational Aqua line of NMRC and the Blue line of DMRC network, with Noida Sec-61 Station serving as an interchanging station between NMRC's Aqua Line and DMRC's Blue Line.
Officials have been clear about the intent behind the extension. NMRC Managing Director Lokesh M described the project as a crucial step towards improving public transport infrastructure, noting its ability to boost urban connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion in the region. He also emphasised that the extension will provide significant relief to commuters by reducing road traffic along Vikas Marg and the Noida-Greater Noida Link Road. The state government's own statement noted that the implementation of the project will facilitate transportation and generate direct/indirect employment opportunities.
Local representatives have welcomed the move as well. Noida MLA Pankaj Singh said the Cabinet approved the extension of the 17.435 km long Aqua Line Metro Project from Noida Sector-51 to Greater Noida Knowledge Park-V, adding that it will provide great convenience to thousands of passengers travelling daily between Noida and Greater Noida and will make commuting even easier.
For context, the existing Aqua Line has already proven its worth since it opened. It consists of 21 metro stations from Sector 51 in Noida to Depot in Greater Noida, and has been operational since 25 January 2019. The new extension will effectively double the line's station count in the Greater Noida direction, plugging a gap that has existed since the original corridor was planned.
For homebuyers, this approval matters because metro connectivity has historically been one of the strongest price drivers along NCR corridors. Sectors like Knowledge Park V, Sector 4, Sector 12 and Eco Tech-12 — all slated to get direct metro access — sit close to established and upcoming residential clusters, including large-format gated developments coming up along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway belt. Buyers evaluating projects in these sectors now have a clearer, government-backed infrastructure timeline to factor into their decision, alongside existing catalysts like the under-construction Jewar International Airport.
While a formal construction start date hasn't been announced publicly following this Cabinet nod, the pattern with NMRC's other extensions suggests groundwork such as tendering and soil testing typically follows within months of DPR clearance. Homebuyers and investors tracking Greater Noida's growth corridor would do well to watch for the next milestone: central government co-approval and the start of civil work.
